Celebrating the life of Jan Witman

My mom, Jan Witman, was diagnosed with lung cancer in the Summer of 2023.  She began chemotherapy in August.  The effects of the chemo were hard on her.  She was often sick, weak, and very tired.  But ultimately she wanted to make more memories with her family and friends so she put up a good fight.  In October, her doctors determined that the cancer had shrunk enough that they could stop the chemo for the time being.  It was taking too much of a toll on her body.  She was thrilled and was rebounding a bit.

In March, we were able to take a trip to Florida.  The beach was always her happy place.  She was the most mobile she had been since the summer prior and it was a wonderful trip.  Fast forward to May she was showing signs of a stroke.  It was determined at that time that the cancer had spread to her brain.  The following week she started radiation.  During the course of radiation, she fell and hit her head and broke her ankle which landed her in the hospital and put a halt on radiation. She was moved to a rehab facility to get some mobility back.

The fight ended up being more than her body could handle and she passed away on June 13, 2024.

So, why did I start this page?  Because with funding more research can be done to find a cure for Lung Cancer.

ABOUT A Life Remembered: In Tribute

We honor those we’ve lost to lung cancer by raising funds for lung cancer research. It is through innovative and groundbreaking research that we can dramatically improve the survivorship of lung cancer patients. Because life should take your breath away. Not lung cancer.
